Q: Who is Automated Merchant Systems?

A: Automated Merchant Systems, (AMS) is a private, payment processing company that provides merchant services to companies. These services include the ability to process electronic payments; Credit Cards or eChecks.

Q: Why was my credit card debited for a service fee from Automated Merchant Systems (AMS)?

A: AMS services government agencies throughout the United States, many of whom are unable to absorb the cost of processing payment cards or eChecks. Participating government agencies that register for our service fee program pass the cost on to you the consumer in the form of a service fee.

This fee would indicate that you made a payment to a city, county, utility, or water district in person or through their website with your debit or credit card. Property taxes, utilities, permits, parking tickets, court fines, public documents, business or marriage licenses are just some examples of government services eligible to participate in a service fee program.

Q: Is the service fee refundable?

A: All Service Fee are non-refundable.

Q: Who collects the service fee?

A: All service fees are paid directly to AMS to cover the processing cost of the payment made to the government agency. The government agency itself does not receive any portion of the service fee.
